What to do if the veteran or surviving spouse is unable to sign forms
Before explaining an alternate way to have your VA forms adequately signed, we want to emphasize one important point. The VA will not accept a Power of Attorney signature.
If the veteran or surviving spouse cannot sign the application (534 or 527 EZ), the intent to file (0966) or third-party form (0845), the easiest way to have these forms โsignedโ is to do as follows:
-
Make an โXโ where the veteran or surviving spouse would sign.
-
Have two witnesses do the following:
-
Print their name
-
Sign their name
-
Print their address
This alternate signing method has worked for years.
